Training & Certification

Fireworks Safety & Legal Awareness Course

Emerald City Fireworks Ltd. is proud to be recognized by the Explosives Regulatory Division (ERD) as an approved training provider.

Our lead instructor, Roy Nelson, is among a select group of experienced and certified Trainers authorized to deliver the official Display Fireworks Safety and Legal Awareness Course.

Step Into the World of Professional Fireworks

Have you ever watched a Canada Day fireworks display and wondered what it takes to make it happen?

This course is your first step toward becoming a certified professional pyrotechnician.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion, enabling them to apply to the ERD for a Display Fireworks Operator Certificate and begin assisting licensed display companies on live shows.

Course Overview

Course Fee: $150.00

ERD Processing Fee: $105.00 (submitted with your ERD application after passing the course)

Minimum Age: 18 years old

Final Exam: A written test must be passed to qualify for certification.

This course is mandatory for anyone wishing to work as a Display Fireworks Assistant and is also recommended for:

• Law enforcement officials

• Fire prevention personnel

• Event safety officers

• AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) professionals

Certification Levels

1. Display Assistant

• Entry-level certification required for all new operators.

• Must complete the Display Fireworks Safety and Legal Awareness Course.

• Works under the direct supervision of a certified Display Supervisor.

2. Display Supervisor

• Qualified to act as the Lead Supervisor in charge of displays using shells up to 155 mm (6”) in diameter.

• Responsible for all planning, safety, and execution.

• Trains and oversees Display Assistants.

3. Display Supervisor with Endorsements

• Authorized to supervise advanced effects and specialty firing locations.

• May include the following endorsements:

• Large shells (over 155 mm / 6”)

• Flying Saucers

• Nautical Effects

• Floating Platforms

• Rooftop, Bridge, and Flatbed Firing

Apprenticeship & Advancement

To advance from Display Assistant to Display Supervisor, participants must assist with a minimum of three (3) professional fireworks displays under the supervision of a certified Lead Supervisor.
